When I was in high school, basketball was my passion. The only problem was that I was 6’1” and not only could I not dunk, but I also couldn’t even touch the rim. When I heard about the Wesley Snipes/Woody Harrelson movie White Men Can’t Jump, I thought it was about me. Geeze, If I only knew then what I know now. If I only had the missing piece of the puzzle

 

 

 

 

 

 

Desperate, and a bit frustrated I took up swimming. At this sport, I was a consistent competitor…

I always came in last.

 

 

 

 

 

I tried track and field,  wind-surfing, skate-boarding etc. I was lousy at all of them. It was a mystery to me.

 

 

Then I discovered the answer to why I was a loser at every sport I tried – I had weak legs. I couldn’t kick strongly in the water, I couldn’t run very fast,  I certainly could not jump very high, and I certainly couldn’t dunk.

 

 

I learned that one of the greatest obstacles for many athletes; whether mountain bikers, surfers, skateboarders, and especially basketball players is leg strength and underdeveloped vertical jumping ability.

 

 

 

 

 

Luckily, today, there is a Secret to being a great vertical jumper and I’m going to tell you what that secret is right now!

It’s strengthening your elastic muscle fibers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

That’s it. Elastic fibers are bundles of proteins found in the extracellular matrix of connective tissue. Why these specific fibers? Because elastic fibers can stretch up to 1.5 times their length, and snap back to their original length when relaxed. This influences the ability of every type of athlete including hikers and mountain bikers.

 

 

 

Of course the next natural question is, “How do I strengthen my elastic muscle fibers?” Doing this requires very important and not easy to access information.

 

 

 

 

One thing is for sure – you can’t just go to the gym and develop some intuitive workout to strengthen these elastic fibers. You will not learn how to do this by researching “Fitness” on Google or reading books on athletic training.
