Let’s explore Applied Game Theory and the Importance of History in Strategizing. It has been said that if you don’t understand history you are likely to repeat it. This is especially so if you are seeking to be more EEPPSA (Effective, efficient, precise, productive, and self-aware. The skilled gamer theorist and strategist studies history to isolate essential patterns. This does not need to be complex.

Whether it’s the history of thanksgiving, military strategy, or business success a good place to start is the history channel which has a pop-culture sensibility but plenty of interesting questions, Of course, you can Google History and work your way in from there, I learned a lot just watching the movie American History X, If you search history online lots of interesting stuff will pop up, another way to learn about the past is to take today’s dates and look up this day in history or on this date in history, you can look up today in history, some ethnic groups celebrate certain times of the year to explore their history such as black history month, some seek hardcore history fetching every small detail of the narrative, others flow through YouTube history.  Whether you are seeking fact-based clear history or fact-based  revisionist history the journey is the same, If you are interested in specific subjects you can check out the history channel schedule for history channel shows on the subject

Applied Game Theory can help you to connect the dots correctly, and isolate the Dots ……….You May Have Missed

On the surface the issue is simple. Anti-democracy Communist China is bad, democratic Hong Kong is good. I’m a big fan of freedom of speech and clearly the Communists are not. Still, the question arises, why has Hong Kong been separate from China all these years? If you study history and look at it all through the perspective of applied game theory things get a bit fuzzy.

Watch the video below and you’ll see what I mean.

After watching this video I think you can understand what I mean concerning the history of Hong Kong and history in general. Things are seldom black and white. This is where applied game theory and gamer psychology can be such a powerful tool.

The fact is that if you did even a little, serious, fact-based research you could find short articles and videos to explain basic facts from different political, social, and, economic perspectives. A good place to start is the history channel which has a pop-culture sensibility but plenty of interesting questions, Of course, you can Google History and work your way in from there, or watch historically driven films, even if fictional. I learned a lot just watching the movie American History X.  If you search history online lots of interesting stuff will pop up.  Another way to learn about the past is to take today’s’ dates and look up this day in history, on this date in history, and you can also lookup today in history.

Some ethnic groups celebrate certain times of the year to explore their history such as black history month, some seek hardcore history fetching every small detail of the narrative, while others flow through YouTube history for short 5-minute video tips.  Whether you are seeking fact-based clear history or fact-based revisionist history the journey is the same. If you are interested in applied game theory and being more effective and efficient, there are specific subjects you can check out on the history channel. See the schedule for history channel shows on the subject.

Though there may not be one “right point of view” there are certain facts most critical thinkers can agree on even concerning such controversial subjects as:

  • The History of Thanksgiving
  • Why the American Civil War Happened
  • The source of the problems in Hong Kong
  • Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza
  • What happened in the American Revolution – For instance, The Boston Tea Party did not happen in any way as described by most history books. Oh, and if you don’t know what the Boston Tea Party is, there is a challenge right there.(No it wasn’t an actual Tea Party). Look it up!

So what is the meaning of history? History” is an umbrella-term that relates to past events as well as the memory, discovery, collection, organization, presentation, and interpretation of information about these events. The definition of history is drawn from the ancient Greek word, historia, meaning ‘inquiry; knowledge acquired by investigation’. Essentially history is the study of the past.

Events occurring before the invention of writing systems are considered prehistory. ” Scholars who focus on history are called historians. The historian’s role is to place the past in context, using sources from moments and events, and filling in the gaps to the best of their ability. Written documents are not the only sources historians use to develop their understanding of the past. They also use material objects, oral accounts, ecological markers, art, and artifacts as historical sources. In a sense, you could, if you wish, become a skilled amateur historian, a person who solves puzzles by organizing historical facts, material objects, oral accounts, ecological markers, art, and artifacts as historical sources. Still, there is a difference between being a gatherer of historical data point and just making stuff up.

As Daniel Patrick “Pat” Moynihan (March 16, 1927 – March 26, 2003) the respected American politician, sociologist and diplomat once said   “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.” In real-time this is important for anyone, whether a Zionist, “boycott Israel” activist, Black Lives Matter Supporter, or gun rights-second amendment constitutionalist, to keep in mind as they wildly Tweet without seeking out historical facts that are not only not hidden but are sitting there in plain sight.

So let’s look a little closer at the history of History

Herodotus, a 5th-century BC Greek historian is often considered (within the Western tradition) to be the “father of history,” or, by some, the “father of lies.” Along with his contemporary Thucydides, he helped form the foundations for the modern study of human history. Their works continue to be read today, and the gap between the culture-focused Herodotus and the military-focused Thucydides remains a point of contention or approach in modern historical writing. In East Asia, a state chronicle, the Spring and Autumn Annals, was known to be compiled from as early as 722 BC although only 2nd-century BC texts have survived, and throughout the aboriginal world history has been passed down through the oral tradition. Is one approach superior to another? Who am I to say. Still, if we wish to transcend old clichés such as “history is written by the winners” we are going to have to put our thinking caps on and do a little research, research that transcends our cognitive biases and logical fallacies about what happened, where and how did it happen, and who was involved or affected by it happening?

History, like gsme theory also includes the academic discipline which uses narrative to describe, examine, question, and analyze a sequence of past events, investigate the patterns of cause and effect that are related to them. Historians seek to understand and represent the past through narratives. They often debate which narrative best explains an event, as well as the significance of different causes and effects. Historians also debate the nature of history and its usefulness by discussing the study of the discipline as an end in itself and as a way of providing “perspective” on the problems of the present.

Stories common to a particular culture, but not supported by external sources (such as the tales surrounding King Arthur), are usually classified as cultural heritage or legends. History differs from myth in that it is supported by evidence. However, ancient influences have helped spawn variant interpretations of the nature of history which have evolved over the centuries and continue to change today. The modern study of history is wide-ranging and includes the study of specific regions and the study of certain topical or thematic elements of historical investigation. History is often taught as part of primary and secondary education, and the academic study of history is a major discipline in university studies.
